Home Office - the new work form with families

As a mum or dad, you are now at home more often, not only for joint activities but also for work. As a modern form of work, the home office has become increasingly established in recent years.

During this time, quality time and meaningful activities with your children are precious. The more you actively devote yourself to your child, the more self-confidence he or she can develop when playing alone.

How can you create a balance between work and family life? How do you design your workspace while giving your child space to play? Goetz shares practical tips on how this can be done.

It is important to emphasise that the conditions in each family are individual. Working in a home office with young children is different from working with older children or with the support of your partner. The change affects not only you as a parent but also your children.

The Götz tipps for familie Home-Office

Digital employment should not be the permanent solution in the home office.

Working effectively in a home office with children can be challenging, but it also opens up the possibility of successfully combining work and your family.

Breaks and time islands for a good balance
The challenge of working from home with small children is excellent. Doing justice to work and your children simultaneously will not always succeed in most cases. It is essential to create islands of time to work and take breaks to relax, both for yourself and for your child.

A new opportunity for creative play
Children have the chance to develop new skills. You can give children self-confidence with creative ideas, even when playing with themselves. Also make your children aware of "I'm here if you need me".

Confidence gives support during playtime
Make your kids aware again and again that you are there. This situation creates a more intense trust between parents and children. Creating small games and exercises in which your child is challenged in different areas provides independent occupation. In this way, children learn to grow independently through small tasks and can be proud of themselves.

Tips from our Götz Parents for the home office

As home office parents with children, all parents face unique challenges. We have collected tips and tricks from our Goetz families and would like to share some personal tips and strategies that can help to work effectively and be there for your children at the same time.

The very personal Goetz family tips

  1. Joint work plan: My partner and I have created a joint work plan. We share the responsibility for childcare and working hours. This creates structure.
  2. Create an inspiring workspace: I have set up an inspiring workspace that makes me more productive. The children know that this area is off-limits during my working hours.
  3. Use breaks: Regular breaks are crucial. In these moments, I devote myself fully to my children. Joint activities strengthen our bond.
  4. Flexibility and patience: sometimes not everything goes according to plan. Flexibility and patience are essential to deal with unforeseen challenges.
  5. Limit screen time: We limit screen time and offer our children alternative activities such as crafts or reading.
  6. Enlist help: Occasionally, we ask grandparents for assistance so that we can have undisturbed work time. This takes a lot of pressure off us.
  7. Clear communication: I have made clear agreements with my employer. Open communication about expectations and needs is crucial.
  8. Self-care: Last but not least, self-care is important. I take time for myself to recharge my batteries.
